Chokri Belaid, opposition leader in Tunisia, shot dead

The leader of Tunisia's Democratic Patriots Party, Chokri Belaid, was shot dead on Wednesday. This is bad news for Tunisia and the greater Middle East. After the Arab Spring, it was thought that Tunisia was faring the best out of the country's affected in terms of political violence. Belaid's death will certainly deal a blow to that school of thought. He was a vocal critic of the Islamic leadership, claiming that they turned a blind eye to violence. Let's hope this spurs reform and more activists who share his ideals.  Sad day for Tunisia. For more: Al Jazeera | BBC
